Belgorod is situated in western part of Russia, on the Seversky Donets river just 40 km north from the Ukrainian border. It is the administrative center of Belgorod Oblast with population of 344,000 people.
The history of Belgorod dates back to 995 when the city outpost on the Seversky Donetz river was founded. During its more than 1000 years history, Belgorod has served as the crossroads for many historical events and outstanding people. Nowadays it has become a centre for industry, trade and culture.
Belgorod possesses an enormous scientific and cultural potential. Five museums, two theatres, four cinemas, six cultural centres, twenty libraries are at the disposal of visitors.
