Stavropol
Stavropol is located in the South-Western part of Russia The city was founded in 1777 by Prince Grigory Potemkin at the request of Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia, as one of ten fortresses built to defend the Southern borders of Russia. Stavropol was designated as a city in 1785. Stavropol is translated from Greek as a City of the Cross. One of the main historical attraction of the city is Suvorov Cross, which had been named after the great Russian commander Alexander Vasiljevich Suvorov. Stavropol is the administrative center of Stavropol Region. It is a strategic city both geographically and economically. The Stavropol`s industry consists of mechanical engineering, metal-working, chemistry, electric power engineering and oil and gas.
