Peterhof is a historical small town on the Neva bay only 29 km from the city centre of Saint Petersburg. 1998 it lost its autonomy and belongs nowadays to the city of Saint Petersburg. Mainly known is the city for its palace aggregate which was built in 1723 and in times of the Russian Empire it served as the summer residence of the tsar. It consists of a castle, a park and of pavilions. The city was built in 1705 of the tsar Peter the Great who also built the city of Saint Petersburg.
